HEALTHY SKINThe focus of this consortium is early assessment of skin abnormalities, with skin wellness and cancer prevention as a goal. Research revolves around core recognition technology that can be incorporated into common household objects such as mirrors to detect and follow skin-related health problems. Current projects include: Smart Mirror. Allows 360° examination of skin to help identify problematic changes in its condition, such as early skin cancer. Monitors changes over time and can alert user to seek professional advice if condition changes. Skin diagnosis and Assessment. Utilizing non-invasive imaging methods on a micro-and macroscopic scale to help consumers detect early signs of skin damage and infection. This information can then be used to guide individuals in the use of the numerous effective over-the-counter skin therapies to maintain healthy skin. Healthy Tanning. Research into how to tan effectively and prevent skin discoloration over time. Image-based Library of Skin Disease. Web-based tools to help the non-expert understand and take better of their skin.
