The maxim that a picture is worth a thousand words is ever so more relevant when thinking about health and disease. Images convey knowledge in ways not possible with words, often defining illness, not simply illustrating it. Combining digital pictures and video with textual data through medical informatics, databases, decision support tools and home based health records will amplify the quality of care and patient education in ways unachievable even 10 years ago.

Biography

Art Papier, MD is an Assistant Professor in Dermatology and Medical Informatics at the University of Rochester. His work focuses on real-time reference systems for physicians and consumers concentrating on visually rich knowledge areas. He is particularly interested in computerized health records and decision support systems. Dr. Papier is also PI of a NIAMS/NIH contract to develop a comprehensive dermatology lexicon. Dr. Papier also is Chief Scientific Officer of Logical Images, the developer of VisualDX. Logical Images is an affiliate of the Center For Future Health.
