Dr. Watson’s research interests lie in the area of nursing home and dementia care.  Her research has been primarily health services research. Therefore, it has been interdisciplinary with an epidemiological perspective and often aimed at policy level change.  She conducts complex multi-site research in nursing homes with an interdisciplinary team that includes a geriatric nurse practitioner / adult nurse practitioner co-investigator with a master’s in public health (Carol Brink), a PhD nurse researcher who is also an anthropologist (Bethel Powers), a physician co-investigator with a doctorate in public health specializing in long term care (James Zimmer), and an adult nurse practitioner / geriatric nurse practitioner research nurse with a master’s in public health nursing (Margaret Lash).  Her research is aimed at identifying new clinical problems, identifying patterns of clinical practice, testing clinical interventions, evaluating the use of clinical protocols, and developing/testing methods to translate research findings into practice in long-term care residential settings.
